This portrait was lit just using the cold Edinburgh sunlight, filtered through a windowpane in the morning - one of the most flattering lights for photographic portraiture. I love Aysha's eyes here - she is a natural model and her eyes speak volumes. This is my favourite from the set we took. www.cocoarose-photo.com.
A natural light portrait from the contemporary portrait session with Rosie P this weekend - Edinburgh waverley makes a great setting for this, with huge panels of dirty glass in the roof, making for wonderful diffused light. I love the urban feel of the railway lines in the background, it complements her look beautifully.

One of my favourite photographs from today's photoshoot with the wonderful and creative Michelle - the backdrop here is the end of Portobello beach where we set up a mini outdoor studio to create some fashion style editorial pics. I want to bring more fashion influences into my wedding photography (after all everyone deserves to look like a model on their wedding day!). One way I can achieve that is the mix my lighting, using off camera flash outdoors in bright daylight - you get beautiful creamy skin and rich colours that way. I was delighted when Fiona got in touch with me about shooting her wedding in June - I'm looking forward to my first St Andrews wedding! It will be a pleasure working with Fiona and Andrew (and their lovely daughter!).
The backdrop here is on the upper levels of the Byre Theatre - I love the mix of wood, concrete and glass in theatre it makes for some fantastic contemporary backdrops.

The third of the series of bridal portraits of Louisa Anderson nee Wilkinson lit by window light. I love the way the light pools around her. The image was shot on a stone staircase at The University of Manchester and is entirely lit by natural light, diffused through pale-coloured stained glass.
When photographing a wedding I like to produce a mixture of formal and candid shots. The majority of the shots will be shot in colour and processed through Lightroom to optimise contrast and to ensure perfect white balance. Certain images are selected for black and white conversion. Selected images are then opened in Photoshop, with one or two portraits further processed to enhance their impact and artistic qualities. The bridal portraits here are good examples of that process.
The image was post processed in Lightroom and then Photoshop. The process included desaturation, addition of texture and manipulation of layers using the screen and overlay modes. some cloning out was required, where a lightshade protruded into the background.

This was an unposed candid - I love it! The image was processed through Lightroom 1.4 from RAW, converted to a JPEG, tweaked and then processed in PS2. Layers using the screen mode were used to lighten the image, which was also desaturated with a slight duotone effect warming the shadows. Texture was added using a layer and parts of the bouquet burnt in, to enhance the impact of the flowers. I shot Mark and Louisa's wedding at the weekend, my first official wedding shoot as Cocoa Rose Boutique Wedding Photography. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. ..from Hannah's maternity set. I like the composition of this, with Hannah's profile creating a strong graphic shape in the space. I like the way the light is falling too, just enough to light her profile and give some shadow detail. This photograph was shot against the light, to create more of a silhouette. A touch of fill flash prevented it from being just a graphic shape.
Hannah was kind enough to do some portfolio building maternity modelling for me - we tried a couple of different locations, including Portobello beach. I really pleased I finally got to do some maternity photography on the beach - I've been waiting six months for the Scottish winter to disappear!
I'm thrilled to bits with this recent maternity session, with the lovely Sarah - shot mainly in natural light in an attic room against a satin backdrop, I think she looks amazing.
